Chris Jones & Kansas City Chiefs Agree to Long-Term Deal

Just a little over a week after signing Patrick Mahomes to the richest contract in sports history, the Chiefs are back in the news spending money.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday evening that Kansas City had come to an agreement with star defensive tackle, Chris Jones, on a long term deal. Jones signed a four year contract worth $80 million and has $37 million in guaranteed money.

Chris Jones’ entire contract is worth $85 million after the $5 million with added incentives. The deal also includes $60 million guaranteed for injury, and makes him the 3rd highest paid defensive tackle in the NFL. The extra $5 million in incentives does give him the potential to become the 2nd highest paid defensive tackle, at just over $21 million a season.

Back in March Kansas City placed a non-exclusive franchise tag on Chris Jones, which would guarantee him $16.1 million for this upcoming season. This deal comes right on the heels of the NFL’s deadline for long term deals/extensions for franchise tagged players. The Chiefs will have until 4 P.M on Wednesday to sign and submit the extension agreement.
