Derwin James to Miss 6-8 Months Due to Meniscus Tear In Right Knee

Derwin James

We are going to have to wait once again to see how dominant the Los Angeles Chargers defense could be with a healthy Derwin James in the secondary. On Sunday ESPN’s Adam Schefter the star safety suffered a knee injury in practice that resulted in a torn meniscus.

This will be the second year in a row that Derwin James will have to miss significant time due to a lower leg injury. Last season he only played in the Chargers final five games after suffering a stress fracture in his right foot during practice. Coming into this season I had James as one of my Top Five Candidates for Comeback Player of the Year.

Derwin James played defensive back for Florida State and was one of the best recruits in the school’s talented history. He was the 17th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, and has been one of the best safeties in the league when on the field.

In his rookie season we saw James burst onto the scene with 105 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and three interceptions as well as first team All-Pro honors and a Pro Bowl bid. James has 139 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, three interceptions and 14 pass deflections in just 21 career games for the Los Angeles Chargers.
