Jamal Adams & the Seattle Seahawks Agree on a 4yr/$70M Extension

Jamal Adams

Seattle Seahawks fans can take a breather, Jamal Adams isn’t going anywhere. Tuesday morning the Seahawks announced they had come to terms with Jamal Adams on a four year extension. This now makes him the highest paid safety in the NFL.

Jamal Adams’ new contract is a 4yr/$70M deal with $38M guaranteed at signing. That is $17.5M a season which just passes Justin Simmons for the highest paid safety in the NFL. Back in March Simmons agreed to a 4yr/$61M extension after being franchise tagged twice.

In his four seasons in the NFL Adams has racked up over 350 total tackles, 21.5 sacks and two interceptions. He was originally drafted by the New York Jets 6th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft out of LSU. Jamal has been named to the Pro Bowl three times, and was a First-Team All-Pro selection in 2019.

After the Jets and Adams failed to reach any kind of progress during talks with an extension the Jets traded him to Seattle. The Seahawks gave up Bradley McDougald, two 1st round picks & a 3rd round pick in exchange for the former LSU Tiger and a 4th round pick. Seattle not only gave up a ton of assets, but they did it without a guarantee that Adams would agree to a contract extension with them. Now it looks like that risk has finally paid off and Seattle has once again dropped a bag on a star player.
