Joey Bosa Signs a 5-Year/$135M Extension With the Chargers

NFL owners have been throwing money this off-season like Post Malone in a strip club. It seems like everyday a new record breaking contract is announced, and today is Joey Bosa ’s day.

Late Tuesday night ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Bosa and the Chargers agreed on a 5-year extension that would keep him in Los Angeles for the next 6 years. The deal is worth $135 million, $102 million in guarantees and $78 million due at signing.

This not only makes Joey Bosa the highest paid defensive player in NFL history, just surpassing newly crowned Myles Garrett, but it is also the first contract to reach $100 million in Chargers franchise history.

Back in 2016 Joey Bosa was selected 3rd overall and has quickly become one of the league’s best pass rushers. Last season Bosa recorded 11.5 sacks, and 31 quarterback hits (which was 5th in the league).

Over the course of his career he has 40 sacks in 49 career games or 0.8 sacks a game which would be fourth in the NFL during that time span. Only Chandler Jones, Aaron Donald and Myles Garrett have a higher average per game.
