Love ‘Em or Hate ‘Em Picks of Day 2

There was so much talent left from the 1st round that we had prospects with 1st round grades sliding all the way to the out the 3rd round. With that comes a lot of value picks I loved, and a lot of picks that left me going “huh”? Whether it be the player, or more often the position the player was drafted, some of these picks were just down right questionable.  I am going to be breaking down my favorite picks of Day 2, and some of the picks that I just didn’t like at all.

Jaguars Select Jawaan Taylor with the 35th pick

For the Jaguars to loop back around and draft Jawaan Taylor, someone who was mocked heavily to them with their 7th overall pick, is draft magic. Jacksonville lucked out and had Arizona not select him to protect their new franchise quarterback, but one man’s trash is another’s treasure, and that is exactly the case here.

Love

The Raiders Selecting Trayvon Mullen with the 40th pick

Again the Raiders with an early surprise with Trayvon Mullen at 40. Players like Greedy Williams, Lonnie Johnson, were still available and prospects I had way higher than Mullen on my big board. I don’t hate the prospect, ask Mullen will be good, but I would have rather taken Greedy or someone like Adderley here. Poor management of the draft here in my opinion.

Hate

The Broncos looking towards the future in the 2nd round

This combination of back to back picks (41st and 42nd) might be one to remember for the Broncos. Not only could they have found their quarterback of the future, but they also got a plug and play offensive lineman for years to come. On top of that, Lock really struggled under pressure, so getting someone like Risner with him makes too much sense.

Love

Cleveland get one of THE steals of the 2019 Draft in Greedy

If you don’t love this pick here you don’t watch football enough. Greedy Williams to Cleveland with the 46th pick in the draft might be one of the biggest value picks we will see. This was  someone they probably would have looked at with their 17th pick if they had it, so for them to get him 30 picks later is just wonderful for the Browns.

Love

Miles Sanders being the 2nd running back off the board.

Just like the first one, it is more of the management of the pick that isn’t good than the players itself. Overall, Sanders could possible make Jordan Howard a short stay in Philly, but for him to be over David Montgomery, Darrell Henderson, and even Devin Singletary surprised me a lot.

Hate

The Chargers find their FS in Nasir Adderley at pick 60.

Nasir Adderley  was a first round prospect until he ran his 4.6 40 yard dash at this Delaware Pro Day. For the Los Angeles Chargers to use their 60th pick on one of the best safeties in the class, you got to love the value the Chargers get. Adderley will fit perfectly next to in the box safety, Derwin James. Nasir and Derwin could become the Chargers version of Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor.

Love

The Bears gets the Top Running Back with the 73rd pick

Chicago making David Montgomery the 4th running back off the board, and using a 3rd round pick on him, LOVE. Montgomery was my 1st running back in the class, so for the Bears to get him as the 4th off the board is an amazing value. The Bears sent away Jordan Howard to the Eagles, and immediately have found his replacement in David Montgomery.

Love

Well Dallas, I Dont Even Know What to Say.

Last year’s 2nd round selection, Connor Williams, didn’t have a great rookie campaign with the Cowboys, but for them to already draft another guard over positions like DB or WR? Connor McGovern being the Cowboys 3rd round pick (90th) makes their 2nd pick being a guard in back to back drafts. Connor Williams battled injuries, along with the entire Cowboys offensive line, and never was able to gain his footing for Dallas. I think they should have worked with Williams, someone who was called “The Next Joe Thomas” by some ,at least one more off season to get it right before drafting another guard.

Hate

The Rams Grab Bobby Evans with the 97th pick in the 3rd Round

Bobby Evans came into the 2018-19 season as one of the top tackles in college football. After a wild season with the Sooners, and practically everyone being an NFL Draft prospect on their offensive line, Evans feel to the middle of the pack. Heck, most didn’t even have him as the best tackle on his own offensive line. With Andrew Whitworth looking at his last season, the Rams really needed to find his replacement sooner rather than later. Evans will help keep Goff upright whenever Whitworth decides to hang it up.

Love

The Jags and the Bucs Miss Out on a Top Safety in Chauncey Gardner

Both the 98th and 99th pick from the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers disappointed me. First, Jacksonville took Quincy Williams with Chauncey Gardner Johnson still on the board which didn’t add up to me. Then to make it worse, Tampa Bay went safety, and picked someone else besides Chauncey Gardner with back to back picks. For one of the top safeties to get over looked, and the Buccaneers to miss their chance at fixing their safety issues, I was really left confused here.

New England Continues to be New England

Of course we have to end this draft piece on some New England Patriots love. The Patriots finding their for sure replacement in Trent Brown with the second to last pick in the 3rd round? Love. Yodny Cajuste was regarded as a top tackle in this draft class, and fills everything the Pats needed in their tackle position. Cajuste is going to take some time, but we all know what happens to prospects that “just need a little work” for the Pats. Once again New England stays ahead of the game, getting value with every pick they take.
