Miami’s Gregory Rousseau Opts Out of the College Football Season

Gregory Rousseau

Now we are really starting to see big pieces fall in the world of college football. Just hours after Micah Parsons announced he would be opting out of the 2020-21 college football season; Gregory Rousseau informed head coach Manny Diaz that he plans to do the same.

Manny Diaz said on Thursday that he had just received word that his star defensive lineman will be opting out for the season. He will now shift his focus on preparing for the 2021 NFL Draft. Rousseau is the third player that is projected to be a high 1st round pick to announce they are opting out of the season in just two days.

“Craziest day of my life” – Gregory Rousseau

Degnan, S. (2020, August 06). Miami DE Greg Rousseau opts out of season to enter NFL Draft: ‘Craziest day of my life’. Retrieved August 06, 2020, from https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/college/acc/university-of-miami/article244755372.html

Without a doubt he is one of the top defensive players in college football. In his first year with solid snaps, he was able to rack up 54 total tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, and 15.5 sacks. I have him ranked as my No. 6 overall player on my 2021 NFL Draft Big Board, just barely above Clemson’s Xavier Thomas.

At 6’7, 253-pounds, Gregory Rousseau is a monster along the defensive line. He could rush off the edge, rush from a two point stance, or kick inside and provide pressure from the defensive tackle position.

Luckily for the Hurricanes, they have plenty of talent on the edge behind Rousseau. Last February Jaelan Phillips, the nation’s No. 1 player in the Class of 2017, transferred to the University of Miami after he reportedly medically retired at UCLA. He will now be asked to fill an even bigger role with Gregory Rousseau’s decision.
