The Philadelphia Eagles Shock the San Francisco 49ers 25-20

Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles came into Levi’s Stadium looking for their first win of the win against the San Francisco 49ersNick Bosa, Richard Sherman, and Raheem Mosert were among 10 49ers ruled out for this game.

Philadelphia started off slow, throwing an early interception on the second drive of the game. Luckily for the Eagles, their defense came ready to play and stopped the 49ers from scoring off the turnover. Carson Wentz would get his revenge by marching eight plays down the field to score. Wentz took it in himself from 11-yards out to put the Eagles up 8-0 after a successful two-point conversion.

Brandon Aiyuk would get things going for San Francisco’s offense taking a swing pass 38-yards to the house. The game would stall at 8-7 for the rest of the half. Nick Mullens would be intercepted by Rodney McLeod, but Philly only got five plays out of the turnover.

The 49ers would march down the field coming out from halftime, scoring on a 12-play drive. George Kittle would get his first touchdown grab of the season on a five-yard reception from Mullens.

Then things got really messy for Mullens and the 49ers. The Eagles would kick a field goal, making it a 14-11 game, and then forcing a fumble out of Nick Mullens. In just four minutes the Eagles were able to score thanks to a 42-yard touchdown from Travis Fulgham, thus giving them an 18-14 lead.

The Eagles weren’t done yet either. With 5:42 left in the fourth quarter, linebacker Alex Singleton intercepted Nick Mullens and returned it 30-yards for a touchdown. Suddenly the 49ers were looking at a 25-14 deficit with just over five and half minutes left in the game. C.J. Beathard would replace Mullens for the final two drives of the game, and attempt to save the 49ers.

C.J. Beathard would bring the 49ers within a score after completing 9 out of 10 pass attempts and a one-yard touchdown run from Jerick McKinnon. One Philly three-and-out later, and Beathard now has his chance to become Superman. After driving to the Philadelphia 33-yard line, the Eagles defensive line provided enough pressure to halt San Francisco from scoring.

Nick Mullens finished the game completing 18 of his 26 pass attempts for 200 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. C.J. Beathard completed 14 of his 19 pass attempts for 138 yards in his limited time on the field. George Kittle hauled in 15 receptions from both quarterbacks for 183 yards and a touchdown. Jerick McKinnon led the 49ers in rushing with 53 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown as well as recording seven catches for 43 yards.

Carson Wentz had 230 total yards, two total touchdowns and an interception on the night.  Miles Sanders had 13 carries on the night and rushed for 46 yards, and Greg Ward Jr led the Eagles with four receptions for 38 yards.

The now NFC East leading Philadelphia Eagles will take on the 3-0 Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field next week at 12:00 PM. San Francisco will look to bounce back against the 1-3 Miami Dolphins at home.
