3-Star WR Chance Ables Flips From TCU to Arizona State

In a surprising turn of events, three-star wide receiver Chance Ables has decided to decommit from Texas Christian University (TCU) and will instead take his talents to Arizona State University. The flip marks a significant addition for the Sun Devils, who have been aggressive on the recruiting trail in Texas under head coach Kenny Dillingham.
Chance Ables, a standout at Plano East High School in Texas, initially pledged to TCU last February. The decision seemed solid, with Ables citing his relationship with Coach Malcolm Kelly and the Horned Frogs’ dynamic offense as key factors to his commitment. However, after taking an official visit to Arizona State last weekend, Ables had a change of heart.
While TCU initially seemed like a perfect fit for Ables, the wide receiver found something special during his recent visit to Arizona State. Beyond football, Ables expressed his excitement about the broader opportunities that ASU offers, both on and off the field. After his flip he told me how he could really imagine himself staying in Tempe after his football career is over, and is excited to see what life is like outside of Texas respectfully.
The addition of Chance Ables gives the Sun Devils another weapon in their passing attack. At 6-foot-3 and 177 pounds, Ables is known for his ability to make tough catches and precise route-running. He projects as a versatile receiver who can stretch the field and make plays in the open space, a perfect fit for Arizona State’s up-tempo offense.
For TCU, losing Chance Ables is for sure a setback, especially as they just notched a key win over Oklahoma State making them bowl eligible. TCU is looking to gear up for the 2025 season and rebound from a rocky 2024 campaign. The Horned Frogs’ recruiting class is still headlined by standout four-star edge rusher Chad Woodfork & four-star QB Adam Schobel keeping them atop the Big-12 recruiting rankings.
TCU has been in hot pursuit for rising star Quentin Gibson, along with Colorado, who will now likely be the No. 1 target for TCU going forward as they look to replace the loss of Ables before National Signing Day.
