Just four days after decommitting from Baylor University, Roderick Daniels Jr has announced his new home. Many people favorited the SMU Mustangs to land the speedy slot receiver, and those thoughts came true Thursday afternoon.
The Duncanville wideout held offers from programs like Arizona State, Minnesota, Missouri, and of course Baylor. In the end Daniels opted to stay even closer to home and will be joining fellow teammate Jadarius Thursby. It probably helps that SMU’s recruiting coordinator, Ra’Shaad Samples, is son of Duncanville head coach Reginald Samples.
The nation’s No. 5 dual-threat quarterback, Preston Stone, will also be joining Daniels at SMU. Currently a senior at Parish Episcopal School, Preston Stone is another Dallas product that will be staying in the area. After announcing his commitment Thursday, Stone was quick at welcoming Daniels to the SMU family.
Roderick Daniels Jr has been Duncanville High School’s best receiver this season. He has recorded 33 catches for 568 yards and six touchdowns in his seven games this year. He also offers versatility in the run game and on special teams. The Mustangs offense is fast paced, and uses the slot receiver often.
SMU now has a Top 50 recruiting class according to 247Sports, and brings in mostly Texas breed talent. Daniels Jr makes for the Ponies 15th commitment in 2021, and 6th highest rated commit according to 247Sports.
