One of the few remaining 5-star prospects left to commit has just announced where he will be attending college for the next three to four years. Leonard Taylor, ESPN’s No. 2 defensive tackle in 2021, announced via CBS Sports that he will be committing to the University of Miami (FL).
Taylor narrowed his choices down to the Hurricanes and the Gators on July 29th, and held other offers from schools like Alabama, Tennessee, Penn State and Ohio State. He is 247Sports No. 1 defensive tackle and the 2nd best player in the state of Florida, whereas ESPN views him as the best player in Florida and the No. 2 defensive tackle in the Class of 2021. Either way this is another huge pick up for the Hurricanes.
The Miami native played his junior season at Miami Palmetto High School and helped the Panthers to a 10-2 record and a regional semi-finals appearance. Leonard Taylor had 68 total tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 11 sacks and even managed two interceptions (one was returned for a touchdown).
Miami’s recruiting class is making big strides in the 2021 recruiting cycle. Taylor is their second 5-star recruit to commit to the university in two weeks, and helps surge the Hurricanes up 3 spots in the 2021 recruiting team rankings from 11th to 8th. They also jumped to the 2nd best recruiting class in the ACC. He is the highest ranked defensive linemen to commit to the Hurricanes since 2014.
The Hurricanes are getting a freaky defensive linemen who can line up all over the line. He is a defensive tackle but has enough athleticism to line up on the edge too. 247Sport’s Charles Power compares him to former Crimson Tide defensive tackle, Quinnen Williams, and could make a real impact as a true freshmen like Williams.
