Bixby High School Destroys Choctaw High School 70-7

Bixby High School

For our second game of Week 7 the afootballaddict team broke out of Texas for the first time this season and made their way up to Choctaw, Oklahoma. Bixby High School hasn’t lost a game in 1,141 days, but Choctaw High School was looking to change that Friday night. Last year the Yellow Jackets were able to push Bixby to their limits in the 6A state championship in a 17-14 loss. Could they finally pull off the upset this time around?

Tonight’s game started with Choctaw kicking off to Bixby, and it wouldn’t take long for the Spartans to get going. On the first play of the game Braylin Presley would take the opening hand off 77-yards for a touchdown. Unfortunately for Bixby that play would get called back for holding. The very next play though Presley would take a pass from senior QB Christian Burke 70 yards to the house.

The Yellowjackets opening drive wouldn’t result in much. The Spartans would quickly get the ball back and attempt to add onto their lead. They would make a strong drive down the field and cap it off with a 10-yard touchdown by Miles Hill. Bixby would take a quick 14-0 with 6:21 left in the first quarter. On the next drive the Yellowjackets would fumble the snap and turn the ball over at their own 20-yard line. A few plays later the Spartans would rush for their third touchdown of the night thanks to utility quarterback Connor Kirby.

On the next drive Choctaw would finally get something going offensively. Junior quarterback Steele Wasel would connect with junior running back Latrell Ray with 1:35 left in the 1st quarter.

The Spartan’s would bring Connor Kirby back into the game who is known to be more of their running option. Kirby would blast a QB draw 55-yards to the house to bring the lead back to 21 points. Choctaw moved the ball down the field to attempt to retaliate but once again turnover the ball. This time the Yellowjackets would fall to convert on 4th down and turn it over in the red zone.

Christian Burke would connect with Preston Solomon on a 60-yard touchdown reception to take a 35-7 lead with 7:03 in the half. Just a few moments later Burke would once again connect on a touchdown pass. This time Oklahoma commit Luke Hasz would haul in a 20-yard pass to blow the lead to a whooping 42-7.

Steele Wasel would fumble their snap once again and turn the ball over to start the half. The Spartans would take advantage of the Choctaw turnover in just three plays. Braylin Presley would take a quick pass from Burke and take it all the way to the crib. With 7:35 left in the 3rd quarter Bixby now leads Choctaw 49-7.

In the 4th quarter things wouldn’t get any better for the Yellowjackets. Bixby continued to pile on the points as their starters would stay in most the quarter. Senior running back Zach Blankenship would help Bixby run out the clock, but not before he would find the end zone for his first score of the night. The Spartans would tack on another 14 points bringing the final score to 70-7.

Luke Hasz would haul in seven receptions for 86-yards and a touchdown. Bixby’s defense would come up with six fumble recoveries, and four sacks on the night. Connor Kirby finished with 118 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Braylin Presley once again had over 110 total yards and two touchdowns on the night.

Christian Burke would finish the night with 282 passing yards and three touchdowns. He would also finish the night as our Player of the Game. His ability to calmly orchestrate the offense was something that gained our attention immediately. Burke wasn’t called upon too often but when he was he delivered perfectly placed balls that helped the Spartans offense never slow down.

Be sure to check out our first game of our Week 7 match ups. The South Oak Cliff Bears continued to look amazing as they beat Conrad High School 38-0.
