The 2021 Oklahoma recruiting class just got a major bump on Saturday with the commitment of two highly coveted prospects. The Sooners opened the day with the 32nd overall recruiting class, but look to jump into possibly the Top 8.
Earlier in the day, four-star cornerback Latrell McCutchin, announced he would be committing to Oklahoma University. McCutchin was a former Alabama pledge, but scratched his verbal commitment after visiting Oklahoma in March.
Latrell McCutchin is from Austin, Texas and stands 6’1, 175 Lbs. He is debatably the best cornerback in the state of Texas depending on which recruiting site you reference.
The 4th of July fun didn’t stop there for Lincoln Riley and the Sooners though. As a matter of fact, you could say it was just beginning.
Fresh off his Elite 11 MVP, five-star quarterback Caleb Williams announced via CBS Sports that he would be taking his talents to Norman for his college career. Williams is the consensus No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the nation, and ranked as high as 3rd overall by Rivals.com.
Williams gives OU their second No. 1 overall dual-threat QB commitment in three years. He joins 2019’s No. 1 overall dual-threat QB, Spencer Rattler, along with 2020’s 7th best dual-threat QB, Chandler Morris.
He had over 22 offers, and narrowed his list down to LSU, Maryland, and of course Oklahoma. According to the 247Sports recruiting database, Williams is Oklahoma’s 3rd highest recruit ever, only behind Adrian Peterson and Rhett Bomar from the 2004 Class.
Lincoln Riley has turned Oklahoma into QBU over the past couple of seasons with the success of Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray and Jalen Hurts. 2 of the past 3 Heisman winners, and the other came in 2nd place to a guy who had the best season ever recorded in college football. It is no question why quarterbacks want to get under Riley’s wing.
The two prospects join an already talented group of high school talent for the Sooners. Williams will join a duo of four star wide receivers (Mario Williams, four-star out of Plant City, Florida and Cody Jackson out of Richmond, Texas) to revamp the Sooners offense for the future. McCutchin makes for Oklahoma’s 4th four-star recruit on defense for the Class of 2021.
