Our first game of Week 10 took place at Sprague Stadium as Carter High School took on Pinkston High School. The weather was wild with winds up to 40 MPH, and a steady temperature of 55 degrees. The Carter Cowboys would lock up a district title with a win over the Vikings.
Carter High School would start off with the ball but both offenses would struggle in the first quarter. Neither team was able to get any momentum going offensively. Right when it looked like the Cowboys could put some points on the board a tipped pass would get intercepted by Relvin Kelly. By the end of the quarter the score was still 0-0.
In the second quarter however Carter High School would blow the doors open. They would score 30 unanswered points before halftime. Edward Robinson busted off a 27-yard run to start Carter’s offensive bombardment.
The Cowboys defense also started to bow up and lock down the Vikings offense. Senior running back Brandon Williams popped off two big runs for Carter on their next drive flipping the field with ease. Robinson would punch in the 10-yard touchdown run to give the Cowboys a 13-0 lead with five minutes left in the half.
Pinkston High School would start to crumble before our eyes. They fumbled the ball at their own 20-yard line giving the ball right back to Carter. J’Dyn Williams helped the Cowboys capitalize off the turnover with a quick touchdown pass. On the next drive the Vikings would attempt a RB toss at their own one-yard line leading to a safety.
Suddenly the Carter Cowboys had a 23-0 lead with just over a minute left in the half. Due to the safety Carter High School would get one more attempt before half to score. It was successful. Senior offensive weapon Da’tarian Borens bounced a 30-yard run to the sideline, and then into the end zone. This would give the Cowboys a 30-0 lead going into halftime.
During the third quarter the Pinkston Vikings were able to keep Carter scoreless again. They even capitalized off a fumble off their own taking it 90-yards to the house. Unfortunately that would be the only time the Vikings reach the end zone for the night. J’Dyn Williams would score two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter to bring the final score to 43-6.
J’Dyn Williams finished the game with 107 yards passing and three total touchdowns on 90% passing. Edward Robinson rushed for 74 yards and two touchdowns for the Cowboys. Despite losing the game I would have to give the player of the game award to defensive back Relvin Kelly who had two interceptions, and a 96-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.
