Cedar Hill High School Beats Denton Guyer High School 27-17

For our second Semi-Finals match up of the weekend we had the Cedar Hill Longhorns taking on the Denton Guyer Wildcats. Both teams were coming off thrilling iver-time victories last weekend. The winner of this match-up would be punching it’s ticket to the 6A-II State Title game.

Denton Guyer would start off with the ball after Cedar Hill elected to kick. The Wildcats would get near the Cedar Hill 35-yard line before being stopped. They would miss they’re 48-yard field goal attempt. Kaidon Salter would then lead the Longhorns down the field quickly to score. He would cap off the scoring drive on a six-yard touchdown run putting the Horns up by 7. Eli Stowers wouldn’t let them be down long though after taking the ball 71-yard touchdown run.

On the next drive Cooper Lanz would sack Kaidon Salter, forcing a fumble that would be recovered by Guyer. The Longhorns defense wouldn’t allow a touchdown, but the Wildcats did kick a field goal. This time they would make it, bringing the score to 10-7 with 30 seconds left in the quarter.

Cooper Lanz would continue his big day and sack Salter once more. He would fumble again giving the ball away to Denton Guyer. The Longhorns defense would come up big once again though taking it right back. Amarian Williams would come up with the interception off Stowers.

Not too long after that Anthony Thomas would help Cedar Hill take the lead with a 6-yard touchdown pass from Salter. With 5:24 left in the first half the Longhorns would lead 14-10.  The Wildcats would then muff then kick off return, giving it right back to Cedar Hill, and they would strike again. This time Cedar Hill would get tricky, and have back-up quarterback Cedric Harden throw to Kaidon Salter for a 10-yard touchdown pass.

It was quickly a 21-10 ball game, and Denton Guyer would be desperate for points. WIth less than a minute to go in the half Stowers would try to work some magic, but nothing would come of it. He would throw up an interception to close out the first half; Cedar Hill leading by 11.

Cedar Hill would quickly get back into groove after receiving the second half kickoff. Salter would bust off a big run, and the Longhorns found themselves in scoring position once again. With eight minutes left in the third Cedar Hill would settle for a 30-yard field goal extending the lead to 14.

Stowers would attempt to lead his Wildcats down the field to stop the momentum of the Longhorns. Unfortunately the Texas A&M commit would throw his third interceptions of the game with 20 seconds left in the 3rd quarter.

The fourth quarter would start with the score at 24-10, Cedar Hill leading. Eli Stowers would keep the game close though by throwing a perfect pass to Brody Noble. The completion would go for 35-yards, and bring the game back to a one score game.

Kaidon Salter would help ice the game though with a big run late in the fourth. The drive would lead in a field goal, putting the game out of reach for the Wildcats. Salter would finish the game with over 250 total yards and three total touchdowns. Cedar Hill face off against Katy High School for the 6A-II STate Championship next weekend at AT&T Stadium.
