Denton Guyer Smashes Aledo 44-14 to Move on to 2-0

Denton Guyer High School

Tonight we have a showdown between two of the top programs in Texas High School football square off at a packed Aledo Bearcat Stadium. The Aledo Bearcats hosted the Denton Guyer Wildcats for the first time in over four years and to avenge their 2019 loss. Guyer is led by one of the nation’s top QBs in Jackson Arnold as well as one of the best secondaries in Texas.

The first quarter was fast paced and had a lot of action. Jackson Arnold would help the Wildcats get on the board within the first two minutes by rushing in a 10-yard QB keeper. Aledo wouldn’t stay down long though. Junior running back Hawk Patrick-Daniels broke off a 25-yard run to help the Bearcats flip the field. Moments later Davhon Keys would tie the game up 7-7.

On the next drive Guyer once again looked like a well oiled machine, and quickly moved down the field. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, the Bearcats defense made some big plays in the back field ruining their drive. Guyer would come up short inside their own 15-yard line, and were held to a field goal. Aledo wasn’t able to do much to respond back, and punted back to Guyer a few plays later.

Jackson Arnold would show the whole crowd why he is one of the best quarterbacks in America by completely taking over the game. The next possession for Denton Guyer would be quick, easy, and result in a passing touchdown. Junior wide out Josiah Martin would come down with his first touchdown of the game right before the first quarter finished. The score read 17-7.

In the second quarter things really started to unravel for Aledo. They muffed a punt that gave the Wildcats amazing field position, and you can imagine how that went. Jackson Arnold would throw a beautiful fade ball to Landon Sides to take a 24-7 lead. Shortly after that, Aledo would cough the ball up again. Luckily the Bearcats defense would keep Guyer’s offense at rest and get them off the field.

Aledo just could not find anything going for them offensively, and could not find an answer for the Wildcat offense. At halftime Guyer led 37-7, as Jackson Arnold notched four first half touchdowns.

The second half was much the opposite of the first. Aledo wouldn’t be able to find much going outside of a large gain by Jalen Pope and a touchdown before the 3rd quarter ended. About half way through the 4th quarter Arnold and Martin connected on their 2nd touchdown of the night. All that would lead to a 44-14 Wildcats win over the Aledo Bearcats.

Denton Guyer moves on to 2-0, and will have a tough match up against Lancaster High School next week. Aledo looks to move on from this tough loss as they will face Northwest Texans. Be sure to check out our other games, Brock vs Hirschi & Duncanville vs Jones.
