There were a lot of good football games in Texas on Friday night but none were as anticipated as this one. The No. 1 team in Texas, Duncanville High School, faced off against the No. 3 team in Texas, Cedar Hill High School. The two power house schools looked to claim the 6A-II District Title as they battled in a classic Friday night showdown.
We expected a slug fest, and that is what we got early on. Duncanville would strike first thanks to a Roderick Daniels 50-yard touchdown pass. The Panthers defense would get after the Longhorns too, keeping them scoreless in the 1st.
Kaidon Salter showed why he is one of the top quarterbacks in the nation in the second quarter. The Tennessee commit would score with his feet after getting Cedar Hill within the five-yard line. Duncanville would march down the field in under three minutes to retake the lead on an 11-yard touchdown run.
After scoring one with his legs, Salter flexed his arm strength in the 2nd quarter too. After completing a 32-yard touchdown pass to Jayden Moore, the Longhorns would tie the game once again.
Tied 14-14 Duncanville would try to come back with an answer of their own before half time. Unfortunately though Grayson James would throw an interception and have it returned to midfield. The Longhorns were unable to score off the turnover, but did push the Panthers back inside their own 10-yard line.
Both teams showed they aren’t just high-power offenses, as they both had multiple defensive stops in the second quarter. The score would remain 14-14 heading into halftime.
Duncanville would be the first to score in the second half thanks to a five-yard reception from Malachi Medlock. That would be his second score of the night after rushing for another one in the first half.
The defenses would stiffen up once again, keeping the game at a 21-14 Duncanville lead. Cedar Hill’s Kevin Young Jr had plenty of big runs tonight, one of them being a 15 yard run to put the Longhorns in the red zone once again. Duncanville’s talented defense would strike just when they needed it the most, forcing a fumble at the one-yard line.
It would still remain 21-14 as this game turned into a battle of the defensive units. Multiple stops would happen before Malachi Medlock shut things down with his third touchdown of the night. Medlock would break off a 58-yard touchdown run essentially ending this great match up. Duncanville would kneel out the clock, winning the game 28-14.
Malachi Medlock finished the night with 182 yards on 15 carries and three total touchdowns. Grayson James had a very solid game completing 55% of his pass for 132 yards and two touchdowns.
Kevin Young Jr led the way for the Cedar Hill Longhorns with 122 yards rushing and a touchdown. Kaidon Salter had a pretty rough night finishing the game completing 43% of his passes for 133 yards, two total touchdowns and one turnover.
Duncanville will look to take on Lake Ridge High School as they play at home in back to back weeks. Cedar Hill will look to bounce back against Waco High School, in Waco, and improve to 6-1.
