When it rains, it pours, and that is extremely true for Texas Christian University’s football program. Less than a week after Marcel Brooks officially transferred to TCU, becoming the program’s second highest rated prospect ever, the Horned Frogs are back digging in the transfer portal.
Very late Saturday night HornedFrogBlitz broke that multiple sources had confirmed that JD Spielman will be finishing his career at TCU. Spielman was a three star recruit out of Minnesota in the Class of 2016.
Reports say there was a “mutual separation” between Spielman and Nebraska. Last month he had officially entered the transfer portal after taking a personal leave of absence from the team back in March.
JD Spielman ranked 4th all-time in receiving yards for with 2,546 yards and most likely would have finished 1st if he stayed at Nebraska. He was also a big contributor on special teams with 1,051 career returning yards.
Obviously with the loss of Jalen Reagor to the NFL, the Horned Frogs could use JD Spielman’s talents tremendously. Whether or not he will be immediately eligible to play is the biggest question for TCU.
In order for that to be possible he would have to submit a waiver to the NCAA, but sources say that waiver has already been granted. If this is true, Sonny Cumbie and Gary Patterson should be jumping for joy.
His addition can be stacked on top of one of TCU’s best recruiting hauls at the receiver position the program has ever seen. They added 4-stars Quentin Johnston and Savion Williams to pair with returning junior, Taye Barber. With such an historic offseason, the TCU Horned Frogs look set for a redemption tour in 2020.
