The University of North Carolina landed one of the biggest recruits in their football program’s history Saturday evening. Five-star defensive lineman, and Greensboro, North Carolina native, Travis Shaw announced his commitment to the Tar Heels. His commitment makes him the 2nd highest rated recruit in the history of the Tar Heels football program.
Travis Shaw is a 6’5, 310-pound defensive lineman for Grimsley High School. According to 247Sports Shaw is the No. 1 player in North Carolina & the No. 4 overall prospect in the Class of 2022. He has nearly 30 offers from schools like Clemson, Ohio State & Oregon. Back in June Shaw released his Top-4 schools including Georgia, North Carolina A&T, Clemson and North Carolina. While there was some rumor he might shock the world and commit to NCAT, the Tar Heels lured him in.
His commitment jumps the Tar Heels up to 13th overall in the 2022 recruiting class rankings. It also gives North Carolina the third highest rated class in the ACC. Four-star defensive recruits like Sebastian Cheeks, Tayon Holloway & Malaki Hamrick are some of the headlining names in Carolina’s class.
This is obviously a huge win for Mack Brown and the Tar Heels. They now can look to pair up Shaw with five-star defensive lineman Keeshawn Silver from their 2021 class. Desmond Evans & Myles Murphy are also both talented edge rushers that North Carolina could have on that front line. Mack Brown has only been back with North Carolina for a few seasons, but is already leaving his foot print on the roster.
