Five-Star Edge Keon Keeley Decommits from Notre Dame

Keon Keeley

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have been one of the best teams on the 2023 recruiting trail thus far. However, it looks as if they have finally hit their first speed bump with this red hot recruiting class. After weeks of speculation, five-star edge rusher Keon Keeley just announced that he will be decommitting from Notre Dame.

Keon Keeley is not just a five-star edge rusher, he is the No. 9 overall recruit in the Class of 2023. Keeley plays for Berkeley Preparatory Academy in Tampa, Florida and has 22 offers from the nations top programs. He is currently viewed as the No. 1 edge rusher in the nation, and potentially the No. 1 recruit for the entire class. Coming in at 6’6, 242-pounds; Keeley has the size to already go toe to toe with college football athletes.Β

This is a huge deal for the Fighting Irish as Keon was the top prospect in Notre Dame’s No. 1 recruiting class. There are also plenty of rumors of five-star safety Peyton Bowen also flipping his commitment from Notre Dame. Bowen is now the highest rated prospect in their recruiting class. With Keeley’s decommitment the Fighting Irish drop to No. 3 overall behind Alabama & Texas. Ohio State is also right behind Notre Dame by less than 0.5 points in the current rankings.

On July 30th Keon Keeley took an unofficial visit to Alabama, and things started rolling from there. The visit obviously went very well as many of the top reporters in college football felt Alabama was heavily increasing its pursuit of the Florida native. A day after his visit Alabama commit Richard Young tweeted out that he will get Keon to flip his commitment. This looks to be closer & closer to becoming a reality with multiple crystal balls flooding in for Alabama to land Keeley.
