Southlake Carroll quarterback, Quinn Ewers, has found himself a new home. He announced late Thursday afternoon that he will be heading north, and committing to Ohio State University. If Ewers commitment sticks, this will give the Buckeyes the No. 1 recruit in the past three recruiting cycles.
The Buckeyes now have two five-star prospects attached to their 2022 recruiting class. Gabe Powers, a five-star outside linebacker from Marysville Ohio, committed to Ohio State last August. Texas’ No. 4 overall prospect, Caleb Burton, is an Ohio State lean as well and has been publicly “flirting” with Quinn Ewers over Twitter.
Previously committed to the University of Texas, Ewers decommitted from the school nearly a month ago. He would say in a tweet that he felt that he rushed his recruitment process and wanted to make sure he looked at all his options fully. This was coming off of the Longhorns back to back losses to TCU and Oklahoma.
The 6’3, 205-pound quarterback currently plays for Southlake Carroll High School but grew up in the Austin area as a child. His dream school has always been the University of Texas, but the current state of the program is understandably too unstable.
C.J. Stroud and Kyle McCord will both be on the Buckeyes roster whenever Ewers enrolls at Ohio State. Both quarterbacks are highly touted recruits themselves, which should spell for an intense quarterback battle in 2022. They also already have receivers like Julian Fleming, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Marvin Harrison Jr.
Ohio State now has a firm grasp of the No. 1 spot in the 2022 recruiting rankings. LSU and Penn State follow behind, and all three schools are tied with seven ESPN 300 recruits.
