The LSU Tigers have landed their first recruit for their ‘24 recruiting class, and it’s a big one. Five-star safety Maurice Williams announced Saturday evening that he will be committing to LSU. He was recently on campus talking with the coaching staff and players. Brian Kelly gave him the okay to lock in his commitment and that was all the Texas native needed to hear.
Maurice Williams is a 6’2, 190-pounds safety for Shadow Creek High School in Bellaire, Texas. He is currently the No. 8 safety in the Class of 2024, and a Top-10 prospect in the state of Texas. As you could expect he had offers from all over the country. Houston, Michigan and Oregon were some of the names that LSU beat out for Williams.
Obviously this is a great sign for Brian Kelly and the Tigers being able to continue the tradition of great defensive backs at LSU. In the ‘23 Class LSU has been able to land DBs such as Ryan Yaites, Daylen Austin, and Michael Daugherty. Stealing Harold Perkins from Texas A&M and bringing him back to the Bayou was huge for Kelly as well.
Brian Kelly has taken a lot of heat early in his LSU career but is starting to hush the critics. He was recently quoted that one of his main reasons for coming to the SEC was to compete against the best, and beat Nick Saban. It might take a season or two for LSU to get back to their elite standard but I think its safe to say they are taking the right steps.
