Could the Florida Gators take the recruiting crown from schools like Alabama and Georgia???Â
Thursday evening right after the Florida Gators spring game, five-star safety Xavier Filsaime announced his commitment to the Gators. He chose Florida over schools like LSU, Georgia, Oregon and USC. About a month ago we saw Filsaime take a visit to Gainesville and has been trending towards the Gators ever since.Â
Xavier is plays for McKinney High School which is about 30 minutes north of Dallas, Texas. He’s a hard hitting safety that always finds himself near the ball and has only played the position for roughly a year. Before playing safety he was actually a wide receiver, and actually was quite effective with the ball in his hands.
According to 247Sports Xavier is the No. 2 safety in the Class of 2024 and one of the Top-35 recruits in the entire country. He is originally from Florida and still has family in the state so that helped the Gators seal the deal. He’s got some speed too. Last year he recorded a 10.5 in the 100m dash for McKinney High School.
This is Florida’s second five-star prospect from Texas. He joins D.J. Lagway who has been headlining this Gators recruiting class since December. Taking two of the best recruits out of the Lonestar State is big, and could help them create a real pipeline there with these guys being in the boat this early.
This commitment lifts the Gators recruiting class six spots from 12th to 6th in the 2024 cycle. They are also now tied with Georgia for the 2nd highest average recruit rating. Meaning that they aren’t just collecting bodies to build this class, they are landing elite prospects.
Billy Napier and Co. now have four Top-50 recruits in this class. Before this They’ve only had four Top-50 prospects in the past four recruiting cycles combined. It’s still early in the 2024 cycle, and a lot can change, but it looks like the Gators will be serious contenders for the No. 1 class this cycle.
Recruits like Colin Simmons, Charles Lester, Jordan Pride, Caleb Odom, and a ton more are all showing a lot of interest for Florida.Â
