Five-Star Wide Receiver Luther Burden Commits to University of Missouri

Luther Burden

Back in August the No. 2 wide receiver in the Class of 2022, Luther Burden, announced he would be decommitting from the University of Oklahoma. He was committed to the Sooners for nearly a year but wanted to continue the recruiting process once the dead period ended. Tuesday afternoon Burden announced that he would be staying home and committed to the University of Missouri.

Luther Burden is a 6’0, 194-pound receiver out of East St. Louis High School in East St. Louis, Illinois. He is the No. 2 receiver in the Class of 2022, and the No. 6 overall recruit according to 247Sports composite rankings. Nearly 40 schools have reached out and offered Burden a scholarship such as Florida, LSU, Ohio State and USC

If his commitment sticks Burden will become the second highest rated recruit in Missouri history, and their best prospect in nearly a decade. He joins four-star quarterback Sam Horn who is the highest rated quarterback committed to the Tigers since Blaine Gabbert. Four-star running back Tavorus Jones will be running behind the top player from Nebraska in Deshawn Woods. The Tigers currently have seven recruits committed to their ‘22 class that are ranked in the ESPN300. With that being said despite a down year on the field this could be a very important recruiting class for their near future.

The idea of staying close to home was a big factor in choosing Missouri over Georgia and Alabama. Luther Burden was quoted saying  “I chose Mizzou because I want to be the first”. He wants to be someone that makes a change in his state and starts the trend of St. Louis talent staying in the state.

Back in June we saw Oklahoma’s recruiting class get ripped apart with decommitments. On June 14th four-star wide receiver Jordan Hudson announced he would be decommitting from the Sooners. He later would end up committing to SMU. Then four-star wide receiver Talyn Shettron flipped his commitment from Oklahoma to Oklahoma State in late June.
