The University of Texas bad fortune continued on Monday as Ja’Quinden Jackson entered the transfer portal. Jackson is a former four-star quarterback for Duncanville High School. He helped the Panthers to back to back state title appearances and led one of the best offenses in the state.
According to 247Sports he was the nation’s No. 3 dual-threat quarterback and the 10th best player in Texas. 2018’s No. 2 dual-threat QB, Hudson Card was also a part of the Longhorns’ 2020 recruiting class. Jackson unfortunately suffered a torn ACL in the 6A-I State Semi-Finals becoming a major setback for him at UT.
SMU has to be my early favorite here to land Jackson’s talents. Duncanville’s head coach Reginald Samples is the father of SMU’s recruiting director/wide receivers coach Ra’Shaad Samples. The Mustangs currently have
Preston Stone is an impressive recruit for the Mustangs, but could use some more talent at quarterback on the team. Shane Buechele has been very impressive since transferring from the University of Texas, and will be leaving a big hole in the offense.
Could Ja’Quinden Jackson carry on the legacy of Longhorn transfers succeeding up in Dallas? Who knows, but I would love to see it happen.
There certainly are other ways the former Longhorn could look to go. Texas A&M and Baylor will both be looking for new quarterbacks to lead their team and have yet to find someone to do so. Both schools recruited the in-state prospect before his commitment to the Longhorns.
