The University of Notre Dame has been very hot during the 2022 recruiting cycle, and it continued Monday night. Four linebacker Jaylen Sneed announced via social media that he was committing to the Fighting Irish. He is now Notre Dame’s highest rated recruit in their ‘22 recruiting class.
Jaylen Sneed is a 6’2, 210-pound linebacker out of Hilton Head High School in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. According to 247Sports he is the No. 8 linebacker in the entire nation, and the No. 2 recruit in South Carolina. Sneed is one of only two players from South Carolina to commit to a Brian Kelly led Notre Dame team. The other being Troy Pride Jr. who is currently on the Carolina Panthers.
In May Sneed released his Top-Five schools via social media. His list included Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Oregon, Texas A&M, and Tennessee. He took visits to Notre Dame and Oregon in June, and had offers from schools like Alabama, Florida, and Texas. Notre Dame’s defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman is the one that Notre Dame fans need to thank for landing Jaylen Sneed. Their relationship was built during Sneed’s freshman year of high school and followed over to Notre Dame once Freeman took the job there.
With Jaylen Sneed’s commitment the Fighting Irish now jump to No. 2 in the 2022 recruiting cycle. He now joins fellow four-star linebackers Joshua Burnham, and Niuafe Tuihalamaka. They also have defensive commits from Tyson Ford and Jaden Mickey. In 2021 the Irish were able to land tons of talent on the offensive side of the ball such as Tyler Buchner and Blake Fisher. Four-star wide receivers Deion Colzie and Lorenzo Styles Jr. were also some of the higher rated recruits in the FIghting Irish’s 2021 class.
