Austin Westlake High School is a powerhouse football program in the state of Texas, and is favored to three-peat as state champions this season. If they werent favorites already, they certainly just got more reason to be with a big-time transfer out of Florida. Four-star offensive lineman T.J Shanahan announced that he will be moving to Austin, Texas & transferring to Austin Westlake High School.
T.J Shanahan is a four-star offensive lineman who played offensive tackle for the Timber Creek Wolves. At 6’4, 300-pounds Shanahan is currently playing offensive tackle but projects as an offensive guard in college. According to 247Sports he is the No. 4 IOL in the Class of 2023 and a Top-35 recruit in the state of Texas. He has nearly 40 offers on the table including names like Alabama, Florida, Oregon, and USC. So far he has already taken unofficial visits to Texas, LSU, UCF, Georgia & many other schools this summer.
This now gives Austin Westlake one heck of an offensive line unit. Even before Shanahan’s move to Austin the Chaparrals had a very strong offensive line led by UT commit Connor Robertson. Both lineman will be blocking for one of the top quarterbacks in the nation in Cade Klubnik who is currently committed to Clemson. Klubnik will be throwing to one of the top wide receivers in the Class of 2023 in Jaden Greathouse.
With all that being said Austin Westlake should have more than enough fire power on offense this season to bring back another state title. Over the past two seasons Westlake has gone 24-0 on the way to back to back state titles. This season could put this Austin Westlake team into a historic level as far as Texas High School Football goes. Kyler Murray’s Allen Eagles went 42-0 on their way to three straight titles. A perfect season would put the Chaps a few games behind 42-0, but nonetheless, Westlake could be chasing glory this season.
