Mario Cristobal just pulled off one of the more important heists in the ‘22 recruiting cycle. Oregon looked all the way to Gordo, Alabama to find it’s latest quarterback prospect, and plucked him right out of Alabama’s hands. Earlier Monday afternoon we saw Tanner Bailey announce his commitment to the Oregon Ducks via social media.
Tanner Bailey is a four-star quarterback for Gordo High School in Gordo, Alabama. He was able to help the Green Wave to a 14-2 season and a trip to the state championship game against Handley High School. Unfortunately Bailey suffered a broken collarbone during his junior season and forced him to miss roughly a third of the season.
He has 21 offers from all over the country, and Oregon, Alabama and Georgia were his top three choices. Bailey has legacy ties to both Alabama and Auburn, so him committing to Oregon was a bit of a surprise. His grandfather was part of Bear Bryant’s first recruiting class at Alabama, and his father was a quarterback for Auburn. Ultimately it was the Oregon staff that helped sway his commitment to the Ducks.
The Oregon Ducks now have six commitments on board in their ‘22 recruiting class. It is currently the No. 17 recruiting in the nation and 2nd in the Pac-12 behind USC. Tanner Bailey is the second highest rated recruit currently, right behind four-star edge rusher Gracen Halton.
