The University of Texas’ offseason just went out with a bang. The Longhorns have been killing it on the recruiting trail thus far, and doing it from all multiple states. Not too long ago they dipped into Florida to snag Payton Kirkland, and they just did it again. Four-star running back Cedric Baxter Jr. announced his commitment via Twitter earlier Wednesday.
Cedric Baxter is a four-star running back for Edgewater High School in Orlando, Florida. 247Sports has him ranked as the No. 4 running back, and a Top-50 prospect in the Class of 2023. He has over 50 offers, but narrowed his list down to Texas, Texas A&M, Florida and Miami at the end of June.
Baxter will now get the privilege of running behind monsters like Kelvin Banks Jr., Devon Campbell, and Peyton Kirkland. After this season Texas could very well have to completely revamp their backfield. It is expected for Bijan Robinson to leave for the NFL Draft, as well as back up Roschon Johnson. Young talent like Jonathon Brooks and Jaydon Blue will be next in line but Cedric Baxter very well could find touches himself.
Texas has done a wonderful job at getting some of the top talent in the Class of 2023. Multiple of the top prospects in the state of Texas are deciding to stay home which is something that has been a struggle in years past. Players like Johntay Cook II, Malik Muhammad, & Ryan Niblett are some of the Top-15 players in Texas.
They also have players like Javien Toviano and Jalen Hale both still heavily considering the Longhorns. If Texas can land them to go along with the rest of this group we could see them seriously push for the No. 1 overall recruiting class in 2023.
