July started off with a bang for tons of college athletes across the country as the new NIL laws came into effect this Friday. One of those athletes was four-star running back Emeka Megwa who announced his commitment to the University of Washington via CBS Sports HQ.
Emeka Megwa is a 6’1, 220-pound running back from Timbercreek High School in Keller, Texas. He is listed by 247Sports as one of the top-25 athletes in the Class of 2022. Most schools recruited and project him to continue playing running back at the next level. He holds offers from over 35 schools some of which being Alabama, LSU, and Ohio State. With all that being said Emeka only took two visits, Washington and Notre Dame, before making his commitment.
Megwa spent his first three seasons at Nolan Catholic High School in Fort Worth but recently transferred to Timber Creek this offseason. Last season he rushed for 730 yards and 12 touchdowns while receiving another 113 yards and two touchdowns.
The Huskies now have seven commits in the 2022 recruiting cycle. Emeka Megwa is the 2nd highest rated recruit they currently have behind four-star WR Germie Bernard. Jimmy Lake has made it known he is going to want to be a run first offense even with a quarterback like Sam Huard on campus. Huard was a five-star quarterback in the Class of 2021, and is one of the top-four highest rated recruits to ever commit to Washington.
With the offensive line recruits that were landed in 2020, Emeka should have a good group in front of him for awhile. The Huskies will be losing at least two running backs after this year, and will likely have a pretty wide open competition by the time Megwa is on campus.
