Herm Edwards has done a great job at turning Arizona State’s football program around. One of the reasons he has been able to do that is winning out of state recruiting battles. That is exactly what happened Saturday evening for the Sun Devils as they landed their fourth commitment of ‘22. Four-star safety Alfonzo Allen announced he will be committing to Arizona State via social media.
Alfonzo Allen is a 6’1, 205-pound safety out of Hallandale, Florida. He plays at Hallandale High School with current ASU commit Jaylin Marshall. With nearly 50 offers under his belt Allen had schools from Jackson State to Alabama fighting for his talents. Earlier in March he released his top-12 schools featuring Alabama, UCF, Arizona State, Clemson, LSU, Miami, Florida State, Texas A&M, USF, South Carolina, USC, and UAB.
He credits not just the connections he made with the coaching staff as reasoning to commit with the school, but also his familiarity with the players. As stated earlier Jaylin Marshall is a teammate with Allen at Hallandale High School. He also knows players D.J. Taylor and Jake Ray who have already been on the team for at least a year.
Arizona State has three defensive backs in the boat for ‘22, and a three-star kicker. Larry Turner-Gooden leads the way right now and is a four-star athlete that projects well at safety. It is now a top-25 class for the 2022 recruiting cycle, and 3rd in the Pac-12. Arizona State is now also the only school outside of Florida with two top-50 prospects from the state of Florida.
