2022 just started but the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are already locking in commitments for the Class of 2023. Once again feeding out of their North Texas pipeline, Notre Dame has plucked one of Texas’ top defensive backs. Four-star safety Peyton Bowen announced right before the Fiesta Bowl that he would be committing to Notre Dame.
Peyton Bowen is a four-star safety out of Denton Guyer High School in Denton, Texas. He is a top-five safety in the Class of 2023, and regarded as a top-100 prospect overall. 247Sports has him listed at 6’1, 185-pounds with over 30 offers so it’s safe to say he had plenty of options to narrow down. Some of his final schools were Alabama, Oklahoma, and USC.
This commitment puts Notre Dame ahead of the University of Georgia for the No. 1 overall recruiting class in the ‘23 cycle. As a matter of fact, most of this highly rated group is actually prospects on the defensive side of the ball. Bowen joins names like Keon Keeley and Justyn Rhett who are both some of the top defensive prospects in the ‘23 cycle.
Newly named head coach Marcus Freeman looks to be carrying on the torch at Notre Dame just fine. The safety position at Notre Dame now looks to be one of their strong suits. Kyle Hamilton likely will be one of the first players selected in the 2022 NFL Draft. Another Texas product in Brandon Joseph is coming in behind Hamilton to take over his place. Now Peyton Bowen is set to take over for Joseph whenever he feels comfortable and is ready to be a 1st round pick for himself.
