On June 14th the news broke that Jordan Hudson had decommitted from the University of Oklahoma. Pretty soon after predictions started pouring in that the former Sooner would land with the SMU Mustangs. Today, those rumors became fact as SMU has just landed its highest rated recruit in football history.
Jordan Hudson is a 6’1, 180-pound wide receiver out of Garland High School in Garland, Texas. He is one of the top receivers in the country and is even regarded as a five-star by ESPN. 247Sports has him ranked as a top-15 wide receiver in the Class of ‘22, and a top-25 recruit in the state of Texas. After decommitting from Oklahoma he announced his top-three schools as Texas, Alabama, and SMU. Many thought SMU would be the odd man out here but if you were closer to situation you could see his easy path to SMU.
This now gives the SMU offense a boat load of potential considering who is already on the roster for the Mustangs. On the offensive side of the ball you have commits like Savion Red and C.J. Nelson and you have people like Preston Stone already on the roster. Stone was one of the top-20 recruits in the state of Texas during the 2021 recruiting cycle. You also have transfers like Grant Calcaterra, and Tanner Mordecai coming in from Oklahoma to help bring experience to a young roster.
Overall it looks like SMU is building something very dangerous in Dallas. Many of these commitments can be accounted for by assistant head coach Ra’Shaad Samples. He has been able to keep a lot of talent in the Dallas area, and is currently one of the hottest recruiters in the country. It will be interesting to see what the Mustangs can do this upcoming season.
