Jim Harbaugh has caught a lot of flack the past few seasons, and rightfully so. He sure is making up for it in this quietly good ‘22 recruiting cycle. Less than a week after landing the top player in the state of Michigan Will Johnson, Harbaugh has secured another top in-state talent. Tay’shawn Trent just announced his commitment to the Michigan Wolverines via Twitter.
Tay’shawn Trent is a four-star wide receiver out of Eastpointe High School in Eastpointe, Michigan. He is ranked as a top 40 wide receiver, and the No. 7 player in the state of Michigan. Trent is a big receiver coming in at 6’4, 205-pounds and will give J.J. McCarthy a large target to throw too.
So far Trent has 15 offers and Penn State, Cincinnati and Michigan State. The Spartans were supposedly the favorite to land the Eastpoine product but the Wolverines swooped. They can give a lot of credit to offensive coordinator Josh Gattis for that. Trent mentioned that he already sees Gattis as a friend and not just a coach and credited their relationship to one of the main reasons to commit with Michigan.
This now makes for the Wolverines seventh commitment in the Class of 2022. 247Sports currently ranks it as the No. 9 class in ‘22 and the 3rd best in the Big-Ten. If Michigan can put together two back to back top-10 recruiting classes hopefully that can get things back to normal for them.
