After releasing his top five schools back in July, Isaiah Johnson announced where he will be attending college on his mother’s birthday. Out of a list that included Georgia, LSU and USC; Herm Edwards’ coaching staff made Arizona State stand out above the rest.
Isaiah Johnson is a consensus 4-star cornerback, who recently transferred to St. Bernard High School in Playa Del Ray California, and rated as the No. 6 cornerback in the Class of 2021 by 247Sports.
At 6-3, 185-pounds, Johnson has a long frame to be physical at the line of scrimmage. He ran a 4.52 40 yard dash and jumped 38 inches his junior season at The Nike Opening camp. Johnson talked about how he believed Herm Edwards past as a defensive back himself will be huge in developing him into an NFL cornerback.
So far Isaiah Johnson is the second highest recruit Herm Edwards as landed, and is the headliner of this 2021 recruiting class. His commitment pushed the Sun Devil’s up from the No. 35 overall recruiting class to No. 24 overall. They are also now the 4th best recruiting class in the Pac-12.
I was able to watch him down in Frisco, Texas for The Opening Finals, and proved to be a pesky defender. I would not be surprised if Johnson sees the field early in his career at Arizona State.
