At the being of the NFL Draft process, Jachai Polite was viewed by many as a 1st round talent. After a crummy Combine and interview process, Polite’s stock took a major hit, thus having him wind up being a 3rd round selection.
Teams are trimming their rosters down to 53, and the New York Jets have cut their 68th overall pick, cementing the prospect’s historic free fall. Though I imagine he will be picked up by some team in need of pass rush help (Ravens, Texans, Giants), Polite now must walk the waiver wire.
After showing up to the NFL Combine overweight, then failing multiple interviews and making his feelings about said interviews very public, Polite wasn’t doing himself any favors. Though never taking any direct shots at Polite, head coach Adam Gase was quoted multiple time praising a lot of defensive players not named Jachai Polite.
Polite could simply just be an exit due to a new regime, being one of the last selections of former GM Mike Maccagnan. Hopefully he finds his way onto a roster soon enough, and finds the right system to correct his off the field mechanics.
