A day after winning the 6A-II State title with Katy High School, Malick Sylla announced his commitment to the Texas A&M Aggies. The four-star defensive end held over 25 offers, including offers from schools like from Oklahoma, Alabama, USC and Texas.
Katy High School is fresh off beating Cedar Hill for the Texas 6A-II State Title, and completing a 13-1 season. Unfortunately Sylla injured himself during the playoffs, and was unable to play in the game. The Tigers defense played a huge role in the game, forcing two defensive touchdowns. They also contained future Tennessee Vol, Kaidon Salter, keeping him out the end zone for most of the game.
On his 17th birthday Sylla announced his commitment to the Aggies, becoming the first player in the Aggies ‘22 class. Sylla told GigEm247 that he had known A&M was the place to go for awhile, he just wanted to pick the right time to announce it. The junior defensive end comes in at 6’6, 230-pounds, and has plenty of room to add to weight.
Sylla also said he loves how consistent the SEC is with producing NFL talent. He will get the chance to go against the best of the best, week in and week out. He now looks to persuade big name Texas talent like Denver Harris, and teammate Bobby Taylor, in joining him in College Station.
The Aggies have had tons of talented edge recruits over the past few seasons. In their 2021 class they were able to land five-star defensive end Shemar Turner, four-star defensive ends Tunmise Adeleye, Marcus Borris and Elijah Jeudy. In 2020 they secured commitments from four-star defensive ends Donell Harris and Fadil Diggs.
