The Tigers have dipped back into the state of Texas to add to an already impressive 2021 recruiting class. This time around LSU added Garrett Nussmeier, 4-star QB from Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas.
The 4-star signal caller is son of current Cowboys quarterback coach Doug Nussmeier. He is currently the No. 10 pro-style quarterback in the nation and the 33rd best player in the state of Texas. He held offers from Texas A&M, Texas, and Arizona State but ultimately chose the defending National Champions.
Nussmeier was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana before moving to Texas, thus referencing going back to his roots in his commitment post. He led Marcus High School to an 11-2 season last year, and threw for 3,788 yards, 38 touchdowns to just 10 interceptions. He also would take home the Division 6 Offensive MVP.
Ed Orgeron‘s coaching staff recruited him more than any other coaching staff during this process, and made a great impression on the Marcus High School prospect. What could have been the cherry on top? His relationship with LSU’s new passing game coordinator Scott Linehan.
Linehan and Doug Nussmeier were both on the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff together, and have had a great relationship even prior to his son’s commitment. His father has also been around a handful of teams, and quarterbacks, giving his son plenty of first hand experience on how to be great at QB.
He won’t be having to worry about weapons either. Garrett Nussmeier joins 4-star wide receivers Deion Smith and JoJo Earle in the Class of 2021, along with 2020 commits Arik Gilbert, and Kayshon Boutte. LSU will be set at quarterback for a few seasons now considering they also signed two 4-star QBs in 2020 as well.
