For over a decade LSU has been able to consistently reel in the top tier talent in the Louisiana state lines. This year is no different and their latest commitment to their 2021 recruiting class certified it. Lafayette, Louisiana native, Sage Ryan, announced on Saturday that he would be committing to the LSU Tigers.
According to 247Sports Sage Ryan is the nation’s No. 1 safety for the Class of 2021, and the 28th best player in the country. Ryan comes in at 5’11, 195-pounds and plays for Lafayette Christian Academy. His commitment makes for two of the top five players in Louisiana committed to the Tigers, with two more as LSU favorites.
The Tigers 2020 has been rocky to say the least, but one thing that has been consistent is their play in the secondary. Derek Stingley and Eli Ricks make one of the best cornerback duos in the nation. Not to mention the NFL talent they have put into the league such as Grant Delpit, Greedy Williams and Kristian Fulton.
Sage Ryan actually has family connections to the school. His uncle, Trev Faulk, was a linebacker for LSU and is Kevin Faulk, the Tiger’s all-time leading rusher, younger cousin. Schools like Clemson, Georgia and Florida State all extended offers to the five-star recruit. Before his commitment he was actually a Bama lean according to 247Sports.
It was a 50/50 shot for either school to land the talented safety, and nearly chose Alabama. Ultimately though the family connections to LSU made him stay home.
