The worst nightmare of New York Giants fans, and Saquon Barkley fantasy owners everywhere happened earlier Sunday vs Chicago Bears.
In the 2nd quarter we saw Bear’s safety, Eddie Jackson, tackled the Pro Bowl running back as his knee was buckling underneath him. Barkley banged on the turf in pain, and shortly was carried off the field, and was ruled out of the game immediately. He left the game after just four rushed for 28 yards.
Based on initial testing, and manual testing, it looks like a torn right ACL. The New York Giants will do further testing on Saquon Barkley on Monday to see what is the extent of his injury.
Barkley has been one of the league’s best running backs since entering the NFL in 2018. He was the No. 2 overall pick out of Penn State, and has surpassed over 3,500 scrimmage yards and scored 23 touchdowns in his two seasons with the New York Giants. He was named AP Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2018, and was second in rushing last season with 1,307 yards.
If the initial testing comes back as fact, this is obviously a huge loss for the New York Giants. Despite being a healthy Week 2 scratch; Wayne Gallman will now be expected to be the next man up, along with Dion Lewis.
