Right before Zach Wilson’s throwing session at BYU’s Pro Day we had some major shake ups in the NFL Draft order. There have been rumors have the 49ers wanting to move on from Jimmy G and make an upgrade at quarterback. Those rumors became fact as the Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers made a deal to swap first round picks this year.
That deal will send Miami’s No. 3 overall pick to San Francisco in exchange for their 12th pick, a ‘22 1st & 3rd round pick and a ‘23 first round pick. This is a huge haul for San Fran to give up which leads many to believe this pick will be used on a QB.
John Lynch was in attendance for Zach Wilson’s Pro Day along with 30 other NFL teams. They also left Trey Lance’s Pro Day impressed too, and have already come out to say Jimmy Garoppolo is their guy for “this year”. Could they be looking to select Trey Lance and develop him behind Garoppolo?
Not too long after trading down to the 12th the Dolphins would trade back up with the Philadelphia Eagles. Miami would be sending the 12th pick and a ‘22 1st round pick to Philly in exchange for the 6th overall pick.
This now officially puts Philadelphia out of the quarterback market as far as the NFL Draft goes. There were reports that the Eagles were wanting to trade up to No. 3 but only if they could select Zach Wilson. After more discussion they figured it would be best for the franchise to trade down with the pick instead.
With that being said it now seems fairly certain we will see Trevor Lawrence taken 1st to Jacksonville and Zach Wilson taken 2nd to the Jets. What does Miami do with their newly traded 6th pick? Which quarterback do the 49ers take at No. 3? Things have just started with the NFL Draft, and it looks to be a very exciting one ahead.
