The North Shore Mustangs took on the C.E. King Panthers Thursday night looking to remain undefeated on the season. The nation’s No. 2 team would continue to show us why they are ranked that way.
C. E. King would start off with the ball but that wouldn’t last long. After two nice completions, Kameron Kincheon would be intercepted by Ta’Von Griffin and have it returned for a 60-yard pick-six. Even though the Mustangs would miss the extra point, they would quickly add onto their lead. Thanks to a deep pass from Dematrius Davis, North Shore would set up inside the C.E. King 10-yard in one play.
Two plays into the second quarter the Panthers would finally get on the board with a 52-yard touchdown catch from Jeremy Gonzales. The defense from the Panthers would start to apply pressure but it wouldn’t be enough. Davis would complete his first touchdown pass of the night to Charles King putting the Mustangs up 27-7.
The Panthers would try and convey some points of their own, but would ultimately punt the ball right back to the Mustangs. Chunk plays were the story of the second quarter and Davis would continue that trend with a 51-yard bomb to David Amador. Xavier Owens Jr would be the third running back to get a touchdown after his 9-yard rush into the endzone.
With the Panthers going three and out once again, the Mustangs would get the ball back at their own 15-yard line. It would take just two chunk plays to tack onto their lead. A 30-yard rush from Charles King setting up a 45-yard pass to Shadrach Banks. North Shore 40, C.E. King 7.
In the blink of an eye North Shore High School would be back in the end zone, extending the lead to 47-7. Xavier Owens Jr blocked C.E. King’s punt, setting up the Mustangs at the 6-yard line. Brannon Davis would rush in for his second touchdown of the game, essentially ending the first half of play.
Just like last week North Shore would start to bring the second string players to start the second half. That would come to bite them as Jaylan Williams would fumble the ball and have it returned 33-yards for a touchdown. Junior quarterback Aubry Broussard would step in on the next drive, but the Mustangs still would have to punt.
C.E. King would then start to surge. A long drive down the field, ending in an Eric Adams 3-yard rushing touchdown, would cut into the Mustang lead. North Shore would bring back Jaylan Williams to lead the next drive, but the results would still be a punt. The Panthers would then try and make this a game with a long drive into the North Shore 20-yard line.
Shortly after starting the fourth quarter C.E. King would get called for a penalty, pushing them outside the redzone. They would be forced to go for it on fourth down, and fail to convert. With that drive ending, so did the momentum for the C.E. King Panthers. The Mustangs would take their sweet time on the next drive, running out the clock, and move to 9-0 on the season.
C.E. King High School will take on 3-3 West Brook High School Friday night and try and rebound after this tough loss. North Shore High School looks to complete their undefeated season against 4-0 Atascocita High School next Friday. The Atascocita Eagles should be one of the toughest opponents North Shore will have faced all year.
