Overtime & Cam Newton helped put together one of the biggest 7 on 7 events in history of the sport. Some of the best high school talent in the entire nation all met up this weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada. Names like Jaden Rashada, Brandon Inniss, Rueben Owens II and Charles Lester III were some of many stars that popped out. Not to mention Deestroying, AJ Greene, & MMG commentating the event.
Even though everyone here was pretty much a three-star or higher; some still rose above the rest. I want to highlight some of the top performers I saw at OT7 this past weekend.
Dante Moore, Quarterback, Class of 2023
The current No. 3 quarterback in the Class of 2023 showed everyone why he carries his five-star title. Moore helped C1N to the championship round of the OT7 tournament. His ball placement was on point all weekend, and consistently was making his receivers’ lives easier. Cam Newton talked about Dante’s ability to stay composed in big moments which was on display a lot on Championship Sunday.
Mike Matthews, Athlete (WR/S), Class of 2023
Though some view Matthews as a DB at the next level he was able to put on a show at receiver this weekend. There were multiple times where he created great separation with his defender on deep passes.
Brandon Inniss, Wide Receiver, Class of 2023
This was my first time seeing the No. 1 WR in the Class of 2023, and I was not disappointed. His combination of size, speed, and strength is some of the best I’ve ever seen at the position. He just makes the game look so easy. You wouldn’t expect someone as big as him to be able to turn up the acceleration like he does. Some scouts were even joking he could play in the NFL right now if he could.
Inniss has narrowed his list of schools down to six schools but it seems to be down to USC & Ohio State. His most recent crystal ball was for the Buckeyes but has strong ties with Lincoln Riley and the commits in that class. At one point he was committed to Oklahoma with Malachi Nelson and Makai Lemon but obviously reopened his commitment with the drama that unfolded there.
Nico Iamaleava, Quarterback, Class of 2023
Nico missed Day 1 of pool play for Team TOA, but completely changed the team once he did join them for Day 2. The zip he is able to put on the football is visibly impressive to see in person. Many analysts viewed him as the top quarterback in Vegas this weekend.
He didnt just help elevate his team’s play; he was able to boost Team TOA to the quarterfinals of OT7. Iamaleava developed a nice connection with Los Alamitos wide out Ethan O’Connor. The two were able to connect on multiple short & intermediate passes all weekend.
Noah Rogers, Wide Receiver, Class of 2023
The Carolina Stars had plenty of great receivers but one stood out the most to me. ’23 four-star WR Noah Rogers was constantly making big plays this weekend. His size and leaping ability are a deadly mix on the field. He might have not been out jumped all tournament. Jadyn Davis was able to find Rogers on the first throw of Day 2 for huge gain. Rogers simply was able to beat his defender on a streak with his long strides and flipped the field.
He is looking at schools like Clemson, Ohio State, UNC, and N.C. State currently. Rogers was rocking Ohio State gloves, and recently got a crystal ball for the Buckeyes as well. Clemson has been scorching hot on the recruiting trail in June however, so I wouldn’t count out Dabo just yet.
Malik Muhammad, Cornerback, Class of 2023
The SFE defense took a little bit to wake up but they locked in when it mattered the most. Malik Muhammad was making plays everywhere including a game winning INT vs Trillion Boys. Once again the cornerback was seen rocking his Texas arm sleeve, which should excite Texas fans reading this. SFE used his length all over the field playing cornerback and safety.
Jadyn Davis, Quarterback, Class of 2024
Jadyn Davis made a great case for the No. 1 QB in the Class of ’24 this weekend. His touch is already incredible and he still has two years left at Providence Day School. His passes were probably the prettiest of all the QBs in this tournament. The fact he was able to compete toe to toe with the top QBs in the class above him says a lot about the talent he holds. He was coming fresh off an unofficial visit to the University of Michigan and it showed as he rocked limited edition UM Jordan 11 cleats all weekend.
Desmond Ricks, Cornerback, Class of 2023
Once again it was another quiet tournament for the five-star talent, but thats what you expect with an elite corner. His height and length for a HS prospect is always eye-popping every time I see him. The few times he was tested this tournament, clamps.
