It was reported last week that former No. 1 overall recruit Quinn Ewers had entered the transfer portal with the intent to come back home. It was rumored that schools like Texas, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech would be the favorites to land him, and it looks like those rumors were right.
Sunday Evening the former five-star quarterback announced that he will be transferring to the University of Texas. This comes with the news of four-star offensive tackle Cameron Williams committing to Texas hours earlier. Five-star offensive tackle Kelvin Banks also committed to the Longhorns a few days ago. All three players could see major snaps as true freshmen for Texas.
Quinn Ewers was a five-star quarterback and the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2022. He was actually one of six 1.000 recruits in 247Sports history, but decided to reclassify into the Class of 2021 and graduate early. That decision was due to Texas UIL rules that prohibited Ewers from profiting on his NIL deals in high school.
Ewers was rumored to be negotiating NIL deals terms over the past few days before he finalized his commitment with the Longhorns. The numbers are expected to be upwards of $5M, or “1st Round pick” type numbers. This will obviously a huge step in NIL history if true, and could quickly reshape the college football landscape.
The University of Texas is coming off one it’s worst seasons in half a century. Losses to Kansas, Iowa State, and West Virginia pretty much snuck the Longhorn’s season for 2021. With their move to the SEC coming closer and closer Texas is facing tons of pressure to flip this ship around quickly.
