TCU Safety Ar’Darius Washington Declares for the NFL Draft

The TCU football team has gone through its fair share of struggle in recent years, but it’s safe to say that wasn’t because of the defense. This year the Horned Frogs had the best safety duo in the nation in Trevon Moehrig and Ar’Darius Washington. While Moehrig is up for the Jim Thorpe award and could possibly be a 1st round selection come April, Washington’s future wasn’t as clear.

Not until Tuesday afternoon that is. Just hours after TCU had officially canceled its bowl game, Washington announced his intent to enter the draft. The Horned Frogs had to cancel their bowl game vs Arkansas due to an insufficient amount of players available to play.

“Playing in the NFL has always been a dream of mine, with many prayers and faith, I have decided to forgo the rest of my eligibility and declare for the 2021 NFL draft” – Ar’Darius Washington

Only being 5’8, 178-pounds will be an issue for most teams upfront, but he is still a very good football player. He could end up being a very similar player to Lamarcus Joyner,. They are nearly the exact same size and play the same position. Both make big plays when they are called upon, and Joyner is currently one of the highest paid safeties in the league.

In 23 games with the Horned Frogs Washington has stacked up 86 total tackles, five interceptions and six pass deflections. He is slightly undersized, but surely doesn’t play like it. With the safety position being one of the lighter position groups in the 2021 NFL Draft, don’t be surprised to hear Washington’s name called early.
