The Miami Dolphins have reportedly traded linebacker Raekwon McMillan to the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday. ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted that Miami was sending McMillan and a 2021 5th round pick for a Raiders 2021 4th round pick.
Back in 2017 Raekwon McMillan was a 2nd round pick out of Ohio State for the Miami Dolphins. He has started in 28 of his 29 career games for the Dolphins. Unfortunately for the young linebacker, he just doesn’t fit into the plans of a franchise continuing to rebuild.
Since Brian Flores has taken over as head coach the Miami Dolphins have completely revamped their defense. They now have seven new starters, and have gotten rid of young players like Charles Harris and Vincent Taylor already. It is safe to say Flores is building a specific defensive unit for his future.
McMillan missed his entire rookie season due to a torn ACL, but quickly became the starting inside linebacker once he hit the field. He will be entering his final year of his rookie contract this season. Las Vegas will now have until the end of this year to come to terms on a new deal for the former Buckeye.
The Raiders dipped into the free agency market pretty heavily at linebacker signing Cory Littleton and Nick Kwiatkoski. Jon Gruden loves his linebackers, so it shouldn’t be a surprise to see him add even more depth to the position.
