The Oklahoma Sooners Stay Hot | Lands Four-Star ATH Gentry Williams

Even Oklahoma’s first real quarterback controversy in years couldn’t slow down their momentum on the recruiting trail. Monday evening the news broke that the Sooners landed in-state recruit Gentry Williams over USC, Florida, and LSU. This is their third straight defensive recruit that they have landed, and for the first time in a long time is headlined by defense.

Gentry Williams is a 6’0, 175-pound football stud for Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Williams plays all over the field, mainly quarterback, running back and cornerback for the Hornets. During his first game of his junior season he suffered a torn ACL but has since made a full recovery. He also runs the 200m and 400m for their track and field team and even won the 6A state championship in the 400m.

In November of 2020 Gentry released his top-ten schools with schools like Nebraska and Oklahoma State still included in the mix. He would trim this list to six schools in March. Those six schools would be Oklahoma, Arkansas, USC, Florida, Missouri, and LSU. Williams took visits to those first four schools with the latest one coming in September to Norman. He believes the Sooners are extremely close to winning it all and loves the idea of being apart of that legacy as an Oklahoma native.

This comes just about a week after the Sooners landed five-star defensive lineman Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy. Gabriel is currently the Sooners 10th highest rated recruit since 247Sports started recording grades. Williams also joins four-star defensive prospects like Derrick Moore and Kobie McKinzie

With Oklahoma’s days coming to an end in the Big-12 it is a big deal to improve this defense ASAP. One of the Sooners biggest knocks the past few years has been their lack of physicality against SEC competition. Landing studs like Brownlow-Dindy, Gentry Williams, Billy Bowman, and Clayton Smith are huge when it comes to jumping up in competition.
