After over two weeks of battling a COVID-19 semi-outbreak the Tennessee Titans played the Buffalo Bills in a rare Tuesday night showdown. Josh Allen has been an early MVP candidate, and helped the Bills to a 4-0 record heading into this match up. Tennessee had something to say about that though.
Just under a minute and a half into the game Josh Allen would throw his second interception on the season. Malcolm Butler returned his interception to the Bills 16-yard line, and two plays later the Titans were up 7-0. Buffalo would take 15 plays to respond back with a touchdown of their own, but they would get it done. Allen would complete a three-yard dump pass to Isaiah McKenzie who would take it on in for the score.
Both teams would trade punts before the Titans would re-take the lead early in the second quarter. Kalif Raymond would continue his stellar play from Week 3 with a 40-yard punt return setting up Tennessee inside Buffalo territory. Just a few plays later he would catch a 20-yard reception, putting the Bills in the red-zone. Derrick Henry would finish the drive off with his first touchdown of the night.Â
Buffalo’s defense made life hard for Josh Allen on the next drive. They were able to provide consistent pressure on Allen, and even sacked him for a ten yard loss. T.J. Yeldon would then fumble the ball, but luckily it was recovered by Buffalo and they could settle for a field goal. Tyler Bass would knock down a 43-yard field goal to bring the Bills within four points.
This didn’t result in much besides a viral clip, so I thought it should still be shared.
With less than thirty seconds left in the first half Ryan Tannehill took it himself for a 10-yard score. This would put the Titans up 21-10 heading into halftime.
The third quarter was filled with a lot of back and fourth offense, and even more penalties. Finally, with less than two minutes to go in the quarter, Ryan Tannehill would complete a four-yard pass to Jonnu Smith put the Titans up by 18 points.Â
Even though the game was pretty much already decided, the Bills wouldn’t give up. Buffalo marched down the field on a 14-play drive resulting in a 22-yard touchdown reception from T.J Yeldon. They would elect to go for the two-point conversion, but fail on a pass attempt to Cole Beasley.
Things started to get really ugly towards the end with Tennessee scoring two very, but very quick touchdowns making this game seem like an even bigger loss than it was. Josh Allen had his worst game of the season, throwing his second and third interception along with 263 yards and two touchdowns. After breaking off a 34-yard run T.J. Yeldon would finish the night with 52 yards on seven carries. Devin Singletary led the way with 11 carries for only 25 yards.
Stefon Diggs had another big night being targeted 16 times, catching 10 of those targets for 106 yards. Rookie wide out, Gabriel Davis, had five receptions for 58 yards, and Cole Beasley caught all six of his targets for 53 yards. A.J. Brown led the way for the Titans offense with seven receptions for 82 yards and a touchdown.
Buffalo’s schedule doesn’t get any easier as they go on to face the Kansas City Chiefs next week on Monday. Tennessee will try to stay undefeated as they take on the 1-4 Houston Texans.
