Even though there might not be fans at the games, the NFL season looks to be on it’s way for 2020-2021. Which means the Fantasy Football season is underway as well. Each month I will be updating you on trends through mock drafts, fantasy football relevant news, and which players to stay away from when drafting.
In June we talked about a few quarterbacks that provided extreme value for where they were getting drafted. With Patrick Mahomes signing the richest deal in sports history, the motivation for some of these quarterbacks as risen greatly for 2020.

Dak Prescott
After seeing the contract that Mahomes just got there should be extra motivation to perform at an all time high for Dak Prescott. The Prescott team was looking for upwards of $35M/yr, but with a great 2020 season, they could increase that figure even more. The Cowboys also do have one of the most stacked offenses in the NFL this year, and produced an extremely friendly offense for fantasy football last year. Adding CeeDee Lamb should only increase Prescott’s output for the 2020 season.
Deshaun Watson
Don’t be scared to select Watson just because his favorite target is gone.
Watson sits in the same boat as Dak Prescott essentially. While he does still have two years left on his deal (plus a franchise tag), Watson was drafted two spots behind Mahomes in 2017, and has lifted the Texans back into relevancy (at least in the AFC). The Texan’s offseason was overshadowed by the loss of All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, but Watson still has toys on this offense. They added Brandin Cooks, and Randall Cobb to pair with already emerging receiver Will Fuller V and now have David Johnson in the backfield.
Ben Rotehlisberger
If youd like to stack up your roster with wide receivers and running backs, Rotehlisberger still gives you a late-shot at a top five QB this year in fantasy football. Ben Rotehlisberger is being selected with Cam Newton and Ryan Tannehill around the 13th round of fantasy mock drafts. Defenses are currently getting drafted ahead of Big Ben in mock drafts.
Before his injury last season, Rotehlisberger threw for a league high 5,129 yards and a career high 34 touchdowns. There is no reason for him to be this underrated coming back from a surgery that, in the end, makes your arm stronger. Not to mention JuJu Smith-Schuster and James Conner both battled injuries all year, slowing the offense even more. 2020 should be a bounce back year for the Steelers as a whole.

Jimmy Garoppolo
Even before the Deebo Samuel Jones fracture, I would probably have suggested staying away from Jimmy G for fantasy football. If last year’s playoffs weren’t any indication of how the 49ers would prefer to use their offense, I don’t know what is. They lost Emmanuel Sanders to the Saints, and now might be without Deebo Samuel for the first six weeks of the season. I just don’t see the upside of rostering Garoppolo as your fantasy football quarterback.
Carson Wentz
I personally am staying away from Carson Wentz in fantasy football until further notice.
I do think he is a talented quarterback, but he has too many variables for me to want to consider week to week. From what we have seen, he is most likely going to deal with a rotation of wide receivers in and out of the offense, most with little experience. While we’ve seen the wheels in use, Wentz has very little rushing production which makes his floor even lower. He has a borderline major fumbling issue. We also know Wentz himself is a very fragile quarterback, and doesn’t tend to stay on the field too often.
To sum it up, I’ll pass on Carson Wentz this season.
