Argyle Sneaks Past Frisco Emerson With a 41-34

The Argyle Eagles moved up to 5A and looked to finally have bitten off more than they could chew, but tonight they proved they are still the top dogs in the district. They hosted a 7-0 Frisco Emerson team led by four-star quarterback and Oklahoma commit Michael Hawkins Jr.
The red hot Eagles would get things started with a 73-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Maguire Gasperon to Lane Stewart to take a quick 7-0 lead. The defenses would battle out the rest of the 1st quarter forcing punt after punt, but things really started to get moving in the 2nd quarter.
After a deep pass to Cam Newborn from Mike Hawkins, the Mavericks would punch in their first score of the night thanks to a 12-yard run from Kameron Lockhart. They would miss their PAT however, giving Argyle still a one point lead. The Eagles would then tack on a field goal on their next drive to make it a 10-6 game. By halftime Argyle would push it’s lead back to seven points leading 20-13 at the break.
Argyle was starting to pull away from Emerson in the third quarter adding two more touchdowns, and Emerson once again missing an extra point on their score. Suddenly with about five minutes left in the third quarter Argyle had a 34-19 lead over the undefeated Mavericks.
Michael Hawkins would then go and show us why he is one of the top quarterbacks in the state, bringing the Mavericks back to tie the game at 34-34. Using both his legs and his arm, the Oklahoma commit was able to score two touchdowns himself, and the 2PT conversion needed to tie everything up.
However after trading punts, Argyle would go on a 12 play, four minute long drive to close out the game. With just 21 seconds left Jake Krekeler would punch in his third touchdown of the night giving the Eagles a 41-34 lead. On the Mavericks last drive, Hawkins would throw his first interception of the season, giving the Eagles a SNEAKY 41-34 victory and 1st place in the district.
