To start off our football season we traveled up to Tulsa, Oklahoma to catch one of the biggest matchups of the week. Two of the top programs in Oklahoma faced off in QuikTrip’s Battle of Burbs featuring Bixby High School & Owasso High School. Both teams have talent all over their squads and are lead by two SEC commits in Cole Adams (Owasso) & Luke Hasz (Bixby).
The action started quickly with Owasso unleashing Alabama commit Cole Adams in the first quarter. No points would be scored however due to both the Spartans and the Rams fumbling the ball back and forth. Owasso would also miss two early field goals but catch a lucky break with Bixby once again fumbling the ball. This would set the Rams up inside their own 20-yard line and they would score two plays later.
Bixby would get on the board with seven minute left in the half. This was set up by the Spartans defense, and Austin Havens would throw the first touchdown of the night for Bixby. Unfortunately Bixby would miss the extra point allowing Owasso to still lead by one.
Right before halftime Bixby’s defense would stiffen up and prevent the Rams from adding to their lead. Bixby would get the ball back at their own 15-yard line but that was no issue for senior athlete Connor Kirby. Lining up at wildcat quarterback Kirby would take the ball 85-yards to the house giving the Spartans the lead before halftime.
Coming out of halftime the Spartans looked like a completely different team. On the first play of the second half Sam McCormick would intercept a screen pass and take it back for a pick-six. Not long after that Austin Havens would help get Bixby back in the red zone to add to their lead. Senior running back Jersey Robb would punch in the touchdown to extend their lead to 28-7.
Connor Kirby and Jersey Robb would help run out the rest of the game accounting for over 200 yards rushing between the two. Robb also had eight total tackles to tie Cale Fugate as the leading tackler of the game. Both Jakeb Snyder & Sam McCormick came away with touchdown receptions. This extends Bixby High School’s win streak to a mind blowing 50 wins as they have dominated Oklahoma for nearly a decade.
